Relationships and the way a community works. There is no need to frame it within a set of needs or a set of similarities. When the community is truly together is because the bond is invisible and emotional.

Há coisas, trabalhos, textos por exemplo, que nos parecem errados, por outra, que nos parecem descontextualizados. Ás vezes as reacções estão nos outros. Tão somente porque estes textos, para manter o mesmo exemplo, não obedecem ao que foi estipulado como norma. As normas foram feitas de hábitos tão recorrentes que se transformaram em verdades.
Quando queremos pertencer a um grupo de pessoas com as quais temos interesses em comum e com as quais nos idêntificamos mas não totalmente acontecem coisas estranhas, contradições e um sentimento de deslocamento. É assim também com as estruturas hierarquicas quando somos pessoas que apreciam o comunitarismo e a autonomia. A solução passa pela forma como pensamos se sobrepôr à forma como os demais pensam de nós. Hoje escrevo o documento que é uma candidatura ao doutoramento e ao faze-lo compreendo as minhas limitações de não corresponder à esperada formatação académica.

My Ada Lovelace Day

Although I find very difficult to choose one or two from all women who influenced my work - I would say immediately my mother as she was the first person to impress me, by then I was a child, when she was at work, connecting many plugs and cables, turning on and off many knobs in front of her, every working day. She worked with one of those old telephones as big as a really big and modern refrigerator and all day long she would connect people.
I would say that Kate Southworth influenced me personally as my teacher, through her art work, her thoughts and ideas which helped me to develop both as teacher, as artist and as a person.
Then, from those women who are widely known and who influenced many people nowadays working within art and technology I would like to mention three names, to me the most important ones: Melinda Rackham for her work which I felt very strongly connected and for being part of the people who keeps the amazing discussions flowing every month at the mailing list empyre.
Ursula Le Guin through her body of work in the areas of sci-fi and fantasy, specially her book Dispossessed which has been a great source of inspiration. Donna Haraway is no doubt a woman who has inspired me in many ways, though her methods, her works, themes and writing style. Is true I find inspiration predominantly in words and conversations rather than in works. The publication of theoretical and philosophical works related to technology written by women and its recognition are part of the big changes which happened in the past decade or two.

Comunications

I leave my house hardly ever and I leave often my room to go out in to the garden to look at the plants and watch them grow. In spite of the distance and all the barriers constituted by the ceiling, roof and clouds above, I feel close to the starts. I listen to the starts and I feel in peace, aware that we are made of the same matter and the same energy: me, the planets and stars and all the machinery that allow our communication.

The stories written on books and texts are reinventions of writer´s own life. It doesn´t mean that what we read is a transcription of everyday life which other people can perceive. very often is the life that is constructed in imagination, in the intimate world that can´t be shared or experienced by anyone else - a life of thoughts and sometimes imagination is as powerful as real life. How close and deep do we have to know the author of a text to understand a text beyond the words?

Learning a tool, a technique or about someone has to have a purpose. This is the way to learn. We learn because we have to make mistakes and understand other people´s mistakes in order to achieve a certain objective. Then we learn with others, which is the same as having guidance to pass some obvious mistakes ahead and get deeper into knowledge in a shorter period of time. Every subject has many ways to be learned and that is why a teacher should be selected in accordance to who we are.
I made the webisite for these workshops because I was asked and paid to do it. I also made this website because I like teaching and I enjoy learning too when I find the opportunity given by the right time and the right people. I like the website and so does my client. We are happy with the work (although still has bugs in IE) and both parts worked hard.
