I moving now to other resources and other sorts of visual information.
With the winds of change, with so many choices blowing with rain and wind towards me through the light of the laptop screen I have been finding very interesting stuff.
Berkeley's Island (1999) is a film about someone within his own island, although not am island as a possibility to turn into reality a personal utopia as mine is. A film of someone using what is at hand and recording in the comfort zone but not on his own like the films I did a few years ago (My Diamonds and Diaries Book). A male approach to the individual point of saturation from a situation and where this "\m/" has totally new meaning.

As memórias, bem como as emoções são coisas do mundo da físico-química. a alma afinal não existe e é necessário então a reinvenção da representação gráfica para o amor. relação estranha esta do coração com o cérebro e no entanto a mais íntima: agimos com o coração, onde estão os sentimentos e afinal, se não fosse as ligações dos neuronios não havia movimento físico e emocional.

o meu jardim tem 2 rosas, uma planta da borracha com 6 folhas e que termina num pauzinho frágil que um dia também será folha, uma plantinha pequenina das que nos deu a Ligia, uma outra que cresce para os lados e que a Ginja estraga com um gosto especial, sementes (que um dia serão plantas) de rucula (escreve-se assim?) e coentros: uma descrição neuronal do jardim que um dia será um coração com todas as emoções dos verdes das plantas e dos cheiros das flores coloridas.

a montanha não me cansa, reinvento-a com a gata Ginja. fazer crescer um jardim no cimento de uma das varandas é um parte de um processo sem finalidade. ainda. a Ginja também está a gostar da ideia e salta à cata das moscas e, por estranho que pareça, penas de aves também.
as meninas que passam o tempo lá em baixo na rua nem imaginam que um dia, num futuro de um indeterminado dia, terão um jardim acima das suas cabeças.

reflective practice: individual economies and ethics

For the past few weeks I find myself in another conversation about issues related to art and its economies and markets. This is a pertinent subject that a lot of artists are looking at this right moment, through their work and with their live style. It is, in a way, a quest for the balance between individual ethical selves and the practicalities informed by these same ethical issues. For many reasons, economy as we know is collapsing. Starting with oil, the basis of all commodities. To add to it, population is getting old and procreation is not something adult people take for granted that will happen in their lives at some point. The purpose of art is to reflect on the present situation, from the individual, to the collective. Just like other disciplines of knowledge which help in the pursue of self-knowledge and eventually will affect the social, gradually, invisible to the majority but present in isolated acts and manifestations (more or less public, more or less visible, more or less open).

Uma performance boa, saborosa e interactiva. A artista agradece ao comissário/artista/e outras coisas mais Zémanel pelo gentil convite para apresentar mais uma vez o Bar Luiza.
Terá lugar na galeria Exteril no Sábado dia 12 de Julho de 2008.
O bar é uma performance em que a artista serve cocktails criativos, feitos de ingredientes naturais (dentro do possível), misturados com álcool. O público fica animado e bebe mais. A artista combina desta forma alguns dos seus múltiplos talentos (feitura de bebidas e petiscos, marketing, contabilidade, interacção social, etc) na preparação e venda da experiência deste momento. Os cocktails tem vários propósitos e camadas de leitura: nas suas cores, sabores e efeitos a longo prazo (por exemplo, alguns dos ingredientes são afrodisíacos e outros são indicados para uma boa digestão mas todos potencialmente levarão ao estado de embriaguez).
Bar Luiza levanta questões relacionadas com economias dos mercados artísticos e com níveis de interacção (entre o performer e o público, no momento e pós-momento performativo). O projecto não tem como intenção ser uma contradição ou negação dos sistemas economicos existentes, parte da reflexão e procura pessoal de um caminho alternativo para a pratica artística em que se inclui o pagamento da renda de casa (entre outras despesas).

learning with others

there are others reflecting on what is this of being an artist. Isabel for example is at Spike Island in Bristol with the purpose of learning how to have courage to be an artist.
It must have been something I said (and if was wrong I didn't mean) the fact is that, very early this morning, she packed her stuff and left to Bristol to meet and have advice from a lion.
At 3PM today, Friday, she will be at the zoo to talk to the feline beast.
I hope she is alright and comes back home safe and very soon. otherwise I may have to go there to bring her back.

second bar Luiza

This is a really tasty as good interactive performance. The artist thanks the curator/artist/and al/and all, Zemanel, for the kind invitation to make another Bar Luiza.
It will take place at Exteril Gallery, Saturday 12th July 2008.
The bar is a performance where the artist serves creative cocktails, made with natural ingredients (as much as possible), mixed with alcohol. The public gets tipsy and drinks more. The artist has combined a few of her many many skills (drink and nibbles making, marketing and accountant skills, social interaction, etc) when preparing and while selling the experience of a moment, a taste and taking in consideration its reactions. The cocktails have different purposes and layers, they should be appreciated for their color as well as for their further effects (some ingredients are deliberately aphrodisiac or good for digestion for example).
Bar Luiza raises questions related to economics within art markets and levels of interaction (in the moment and post-moment). Doesn't look for disagreement but for a individual and alternative way of making art and pay the rent.

Yesterday someone asked me if I am an artist and I didn't know which was the right answer. I said more or less. did I got a good mark?

Discovery

A friend of mine the other day said that in his opinion women are more intelligent than men. The only problem is that women need men for sex, if they didn't, men would be totally useless. How would it be if women didn't need men not even for sex?
A few days later I heard myself saying "a dildo is every woman's best friend". No idea how these two ideas connected. There is also a statue of the head of a David in the bathroom here at home - it wasn't me. Brendan noticed it on his first day here at home. The same statue was there for days until I noticed what that was.
I heard in many situations people saying about relationship between genders that we are as we are because men with an average of 30 years old have been educated by single women. The lack of the father figure on their educations seems to be affecting some men in this world. It seems that some women too, now and before (referring to the single mothers). for better or worse?
I'll return to this later as I have to go out to meet a male friend.

Bikini unseen

From "Bikini Kill" performance in Obidos, Portugal.
Brendan (or Mr Byrne, as I like to call him) is seeing things when he looks at my videos. some people from the audience were disappointed not to find what they were looking for in the same visuals during the performance. I am really sorry for your disappointment.
Kill! Kill! Kill! My bikini.
Before leaving Obidos (me, Filipe and Brendan), not far from the place where the performance took place, we left an installation to remind that things are there, only some people have to look beyond the obvious.
If seen attentively, visuals will give you pleasant dreams at night and lots of ideas for pleasurable moments.
It's a pleasure to make work.
