Dear Pony,
I decided to make my own free translation to English of the letter you wrote to Peter Pan. Would be appreciated your comments as a way to acknowledge this version. I also would like to propose this as a project for more people to make their own versions either as translations to other languages or not.
… I would suggest you to write a text, make a collage, open a space, write a piece of music, make your own website, organize a festival or write down your own manifesto. Do whatever you like, knowing how to do it or not. Quality is not of first importance. You don’t need to have talent but to believe in the importance of making it. Outside school is necessary to forget the imposed limits, forget the worse about your education, search your individual and cultural references and you will find the world is way bigger that you thought.
Rent a room or a studio where you can sleep and where you can have your personal belongings. In case you are limited to a small room, get a big bed and use it as a workspace. Load the walls and all available space in your room with useful personal information. This way you make available all the positive influences at all time. Or then, leave the walls white, to create a neutral space to help focus on your inner self and this way not get distracted by the surroundings.
Feed yourself enough. Drink a lot of water. Try to waste as less as possible. Spend money within reason, as you will have fixed expenses. An idea to cut on expenses is to use what you have at hand, what to others is rubbish or what they don’t see. Grow eatable plants in public spaces for example and collect old furniture people throw out. Swap clothes with your friends. Your income should be used to do whatever you find is essential to you. Be sneaky and steal but bare in mind other people may do the same to you, if that doesn’t bother you, then to it openly.
An ecological lifestyle will help you to feel better with yourself – exchange information and goods with others in an open and sincere way. Don’t follow neither imposed ideas nor common sense. Follow what you think is right, it will make you feel well with yourself.
Your clothes must be chosen with rigor – visual conflict may lead to inconvenient situations and distract attention from who you are. Is more efficient a straight style than dull provocation of the ugly and the lazy.
Go out on your own knowing you will always be with others. There are no people of less importance. You will always have something to give and to receive. There is always a useful lesson to learn in every situation. Look after your family and your friends as they are the most important thing in life. The better you feel with yourself, the better you feel being with others. Share your thoughts, interests, life experiences with your friends in an educative way but without avoiding confrontation – discussion and active confrontation are essential. Avoid violence in your thoughts, words or actions towards others in confrontational situations but don’t avoid the violent side in you. Be gentle and polite. The violent side should be acknowledge and activities as boxing, house building can be useful to express it. Public gatherings can be useful too, to constructively express violence. Also don’t be afraid to hate. If it is fair and with an open attitude is as passionate and as healthy as love.
Sharing is the basis of what you do and should involve as many people as possible because sharing is affective. If you share with unknown people and they understand what you do (who you are), then you are doing the right thing. Give regularly gifts to people you like, thinking their happiness is your reward. It shouldn’t involve money transactions as time or skills (for example) may be more precious as gifts. In a moment of emotional certainty give away all that you possess and start all over again. Make sure your ideas and goals are always clear and well organized and when you don’t know what you want at least make sure you always know what you don’t want. Learn how to be just another one of no relevance to anyone. Passion should be the your driving force and have the same importance to your actions as a hurricane has to nature. If people say your rhythm is too fast, believe in it as a compliment – not that many people have that nowadays. Future’s anticipation, can be a reason to get stuck today. Aspire to little and inspire a lot. It may pass unnoticed to you the achievement of something relevant, because is sincere, true and will happen when you are totally alone, with nothing to win or loose.
Perhaps only time will tell what is really important. If by any chance you find out you are a girl, focus.

Alfred Hitchcock (sort of) presents
The above images have a common element related to a couple of previous posts of this blog. the pictures were gently sent to me by Brendan from Falmouth. He took them in Rome where he was last month to present the project VJ Theory at LPM.
This takes me to the latest trend here at home, television series that can be bought as DVDs. These particular ones have been very inspiring and I have to say I would fall in love with the director of the series if he was still alive. but he is not. So I am in love with his cleverness, sense of humor and clarity of mind, presented in his films.

a few days of the month are special
Magenta Interior will be performing "Bikini Kill VJset version In Memorium (para) Stockhausen", with Brendan Byrne in Obidos at the end of this month. With footage from the performance I will create an installation together with Filipe Valpereiro. This installation is another way to further reflexion and knowledge on technologies, performance and creation of images in realtime. In the performance, the visuals generate the music. For the installation, audio and video will be recorded during the performance and presented as base for interaction. As with other installations that I do, this one is also a device for collective interaction, with the work and between interactors, in the construction of an audiovisual moment: the audience and the performers are the same. By playing with the installation interactors will be producing audiovisual effects, using a similar process to the one used by the DJ 'scratching' with records.
What is technologies' good use, misuse, specialized use and creative use?
This is my third collaboration with Magenta Interior. We started to collaborate with the work My Diamonds (net art/video, 2004) where I grab her text and develop images and videos to create a visual, non-linear narrative. We join forces for the Photoalbum as a Video Performance (party, 2007) together with Anita, Madam Ming and Brendan. Now I grab data created while Magenta performs and transform and use it for an installation, which is what I am more interested, regarding performance.
Performance will take place in Obidos, 28th June at 10PM.
The installation will be open the whole month of Julhy.

business's new premisses
Is immense the pleasure of being a female and my respect for Pachamama.
I decided to move my work premisses outdoors in order to be closely in contact with the flow of the city while working in a non-physical (therefore not attached to a) location, the Internet. Charging myself with the energies of the sun -activity some people will find of leisure, I see it as a primary resource of what is necessary in order to keep healthy physically and mentally.
I also changed the house's furniture around in attempt to find a balance for work and pleasure.

Boulevard Magenta aussi. Bien sur!
There is a Boulevard Magenta as well as a Rue Magenta. This is an answer to the boy with the pretty nose.
In fact, now that I was not looking for it I found actually a graffiti for me. it can be seen from the metro, here in Porto. any line that passes by Casa da Musica and goes towards the center will go through there. Saying more would be explaining too much, it needs the want to be seen.
Visual Agency website looks different and will regularly be updated with images and videos. to rebuild V+A website has been my practical exercise to learn new skills. There is still quite a lot ahead of me to discover and put in practice though.
My cat will never smile (sorry sisterella) but is getting smarter and is learning how to behave as an adult human. I got into teaching good manners and this way to practice assertiveness in order to apply later to humans.
It is officially friday night.

Rue Magenta

Aspira pouco e respira muito
I can't resist to mention the text the girl next door wrote on her blog. I would have written it almost all as it is myself if she hadn't had the idea first. her blog is famous around this area and I saw with my own eyes people approaching her to say "Hi", at the club where we were, just because she has this blog.
I had to change the video of the post bellow because the previous version was cut. I sometimes sing along, this same song, with PJ Harvey. This happens every now and again in key situations as a reminder.
